Configuring the External \ Communication Modules

For an AC500 controller with external Communication Modules, the Communication Modules must be specified in the PLC configuration in the same order as they are installed in the hardware.

The following assignment between Communication Module line and slot applies to the Communication Modules:

  • Line 0 corresponds to the internal Communication Module (installed in the CPU’s housing)
  • Line 1 is the Communication Module installed in the first slot on the left of the CPU
  • Line 2 is the Communication Module installed in the second slot on the left of the CPU
  • Line 3 and 4 are installed in the third and fourth slot on the left of the CPU

The allocation of inputs/outputs for the Communication Modules is done slot-oriented and independent of the Communication Module type.

To append the external Communication Module, right-click the element “Communication Modules” in the configuration tree and select the sub menu “Append Subelement”. All available external Communication Modules are shown:

Note

The external Communication Modules “CM578 - External CANopen®”, “CM575 - External DeviceNetä and the module “DC541 - Interrupt / counter IO” are available as of version V1.1.

For external Communication Modules, the same applies as for internal Communication Modules: only the behavior of the CPU in case of a Communication Module configuration error and the required protocols are set in the PLC configuration. The actual configuration of the external Communication Modules is done with the integrated fieldbus configurator SYCON.net. For a detailed description of this procedure refer to the chapter “System Technology of the Communication Modules” (Link to System Technology of the Communication Modules Contents System Technology AC500 Communication Modules).

The following settings are possible:

Parameter Default value Value Meaning
Run config fault No No In case of a configuration error, the user program is not started.
Yes The user program is started independent of a faulty configuration of the particular external Communication Module.

The following figure shows an example of a PLC configuration consisting of an internal Ethernet Communication Module “PM5x1-ETH - Internal-Ethernet”, an external Ethernet Communication Module “CM577 - External-Ethernet” and a PROFIBUS® DP master Communication Module “CM572 - External-PROFIBUS® DP Master”:

For the external Ethernet Communication Module “CM577 - External-Ethernet”, the same parameters and protocol settings are possible as for the internal Ethernet Communication Module “PM5x1 - Internal-Ethernet”.
