Figure: Types of terminals

The Terminal Units TU517 (with screw-type terminals) and TU518 (with spring terminals) are specifically designed for use with AC500/S500 Bus Modules (e. g. CI581-CN, CI541-DP):

  • CANopen:sup:® Bus Modules
  • DeviceNet:sup:Modules
  • PROFIBUS:sup:® DP-Bus Modules

The Bus Modules plug into the Terminal Unit. When properly seated, they are secured with two mechanical locks. All the electrical connections are made through the Terminal Unit, which allows removal and replacement of the Bus Modules without disturbing the wiring at the Terminal Unit.

Note

Note: Mounting, disassembling and electrical connection for the Terminal Units and the I/O modules are described in detail in Mounting and disassembling the Terminal Units and the I/O modules Mounting and Disassembling the Terminal Units and the I/O Modules.

The terminals 2.8 and 3.8 as well as 2.9, 3.9 and 4.9 are electrically interconnected within the Terminal Unit and have always the same assignment, independent of the inserted Bus Module:

  • Terminals 2.8 and 3.8: process supply voltage UP = +24 V DC
  • Terminal 4.8: process supply voltage UP3 = +24 V DC
  • Terminals 2.9, 3.9 and 4.9: process supply voltage ZP = 0 V

The assignment of the other terminals is dependent on the inserted Bus Module (see CANopen:sup:® Bus Modules Overview CANopen® Bus Modules Overview and PROFIBUS® Bus Modules Overview PROFIBUS® Bus Modules Overview).

For usage in extreme ambient conditions (e.g. wider temperature and humidity range), a special XC version of the device is available (TU518 only).
